There are two main types of watches namely analog and digital watches and the most common difference between these two types is the mode of displaying the time at any given moment. The digital counterparts on the other hand display the correct hour and minute on the screen in numbers eg. 4:15 am. The fact that there is no minute and hour hand means that you won’t have to go through the hustle of reading the time.

Digital watches were unheard of before the mid 1970s and the first company to produce them in commercial quantities was the Hamilton Watch Company. As with many new inventions, the first digital watches that came on the market were quite costly and only the wealthy were able to have access to them.

The 1980s led to a revolution in the production of digital watches, which saw Japanese giants such as Seiko and Casio gaining a foothold in the digital watch market, after producing their first models. The huge numbers manufactured at the time led to a substantial drop in the market price of these watches, making them affordable to many people.

There have been huge advancements in the manufacture of digital watches and some of the models on the market come with inbuilt calculators as well as address books for storing the contact information of friends and loved ones.
